We see all sorts of reminders, workshops, articles about being "mindful". Ask 10 people what they believe that to be and you will get 10 different answers as everyone tries to personalize the term. Maybe to one person it means to be kinder with their words and actions towards others. To another, paying more attention to mindless snacking and how they fuel their bodies. Still to another, it might be taking a few moments out of the day to meditate.

Whatever it is this word "mindfulness" means, it is good.Too many of us lash out with unkind words that sting and leave lasting emotional marks on another being. Too many of us shovel garbage into our mouths whenever boredom strikes or we have any opportunity to make a bad choice. Too many of us don't take the time out to consider our own emotions and what is going on in our own hearts and minds - the way we do this for someone we love. We need to spend some of that love on us, ourselves, even if only for a small fraction of the day.

Pause before spouting hateful or hurtful words, you will feel empowered with kindness.

Pause before shoveling unnecessary and unhealthy food choices into a bored mouth. You will feel empowered with self-control.

Pause to ask yourself, "how am I doing today...really?" Cry if you need to, take a few minutes to breathe deeply and soften from the inside out. You will feel empowered because you will feel nurtured and cared for.

So yes, be mindful. In your own way, in your own time, to allow yourself to be the you that you need to be.

Mindfulness....Just a Catchphrase?
